CANADA (August 3, 2002) - Randy Pobst, of Gainesville, Ga., captured the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT Woody's Ice Pole Position today at Le Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres. Michael Galati, of N. Olmstead, Ohio, will start second.

Pobst, driving the No. 22 1st Interstate Inn/3 Racing Porsche 911 Cup, dominated qualifying for the second race in a row. Early in the session, Pobst set a fastest lap of 1:10.245 (77.950 mph), bettering his time in practice by over one second, to capture his third pole position of 2002. Pobst's time on the spec Toyo Proxes street tires was the first in two years to eclipse a World Challenge record set on racing tires.

"I'm very happy for Toyo Tires," said Pobst, who has won the two previous races he started from pole position. "I owe it to the team. 3R Racing is preparing a great car and I'm just trying to do my part. Street circuits really suit my driving styles, I've always been very good on these tracks."

Galati, who leads the SPEED GT standings, posted a fast lap of 1:11.058 (77.058 mph) midway through the session to start on the front-row. It will be the fifth front-row start for Galati, driving the No. 1 Champion Audi Audi S4 Competition.

Johannes van Overbeek, of Danville, Calif., was third, followed by Peter Cunningham, of W. Bend, Wis., and Derek Bell, of Pagham, England.

Round Seven of the SPEED GT Championship will begin its 33-lap contest Sunday at 8:35 a.m. (EDT).
