Altenburg, Glorioso Marinus Back in Tri-Point Mazda Proteges
CANOGA PARK, Calif. (March 1, 2004) -- Tri-Point Motorsports looks to begin its assault on the 2004 SCCA SPEED Touring Car Championship with a two-car effort featuring Jeff Altenburg, Ellicott City, Md. and Shauna Glorioso Marinus, of Folsom, Calif. driving Mazda Proteges.
Coming off the 2003 season, when the tandem recorded one win (Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca), six podium finishes and started from the pole position twice (Mazda Raceway and Puerto Rico), both drivers expect to be extremely competitive.
"This year we have more data to work with," Glorioso Marinus said. "I have complete trust in Tri-Point and Mazda. We share a common language. They are relentless at making the car work right. If a problem comes up, they don't mask it so we are not always trying to drive around them."
"The bar is being raised in terms of the expertise of teams and drivers every year," Altenburg added. "It's going to be tougher than ever to be a front runner. We've got some new players that are going to be strong, but I have every confidence in Tri-Point."
Off-season testing of the new Toyo RA-1 competition tires yielded great results for the team. According to Tri-Point Motorsports owner Craig Nagler, they have momentum on their side.
"I think we are the most prepared we've ever been," Nagler said. "We have good cars that are capable of winning."
The SCCA SPEED World Challenge Touring Car season will make its first standing start of 2004 at Sebring International Raceway for the fourth-consecutive year as part of the 52nd Mobil1 Twelve Hours of Sebring week March 17-19. In 2004, the series will visit Lime Rock Park, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Infineon Raceway, Portland International Raceway, Mosport International Raceway, Road America, Road Atlanta Motorsports Center and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
