Speed World Challenge Touring Car drivers receive probation, points penalties

TOPEKA, Kan. (Aug. 19, 2003) -- SCCA Pro Racing announced today that five Speed World Challenge Touring Car drivers were placed on probation for two races following on-tack contact during the Touring Car race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Aug. 3.

Drivers placed on a two-race probation include Shauna Marinus, of Folsom, Calif.; Mark German, of Pittsburgh; Nic Jonsson, of Sweden; Matt Richmond, of Mooresville, N.C.; and Mike Van Sicklen, of Nashville, Tenn.

In addition to the two-race penalty, Jonsson was penalized 10 Speed Touring Car Drivers' Championship points for a pass under waving yellow. Tom Stewart, Purcellville, Va. was stripped of five Championship points for a pass under yellow.

All five drivers on probation are scheduled to serve their first race this weekend at the Road America 500 in Elkhart Lake, Wis. Touring Car qualifying on the 4.048-mile track is scheduled for 8:55 a.m. (CDT) Saturday, Aug. 23 and the 16-lap (64.786 miles or 50-minute maximum) Touring Car race begins at 4:35 p.m. (CDT) later that day.
