Henzler's Porsche strong in St. Petersburg Speed GT Practice
Wolf Henzler, competing in his first full season in the Speed World Challenge, had a good opening practice session at the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Driving the Applied Materials Farnbacher Loles Racing Porsche GT3 Cup, Henzler put up some hot laps on the temporary road course and had the 2nd fastest time. Said Henzler, a native of Nuertingen, Germany, after his session, "I enjoy driving on street courses and I like this track very much. It reminds me of the street circuit at Monaco, which is one of my favorites."
After the season opener at Sebring in March, Henzler enters the weekend 4th in points and poised to challenge for the championship. Team principal Horst Farnbacher feels the Porsche is well suited to the tight turns of the St. Pete circuit. "The GT3 Cup is so well balanced, which is an advantage on a course like this. The Caddys, Vipers and other Porsches will be strong, but we are looking forward to a great weekend."
While Henzler is the reigning Porsche Super Cup Champion, the team's most recent success was a first place GT finish at the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, where Henzler joined Dominik Farnbacher, another Super Cup regular, Pierre Ehret, a veteran Porsche competitor, and Shawn Price, a multi-disciplined racer, to score a three-lap win. The win was even more impressive considering it was the team's first endurance race.
The Speed World Challenge GT race will be held on Sunday, April 3rd at 9:45 am and will be televised on Speed Channel, Sunday, April 10th at 2pm eastern. Farnbacher Loles Racing is based out of Danbury, CT. Primary Sponsor Applied Materials, Inc., is the world's largest supplier of products and services to the global semiconductor industry.
