Henzler sets the pace in St. Petersburg Speed GT qualifying
Wolf Henzler, driving the Applied Materials Farnbacher Loles Racing Porsche GT3 Cup, grabbed the pole for Sunday's Speed World Challenge GT race. Henzler put up an impressive 1:18.8 second qualifying time, leading 2nd place qualifier Robin Liddell also in a Porsche. The pole is Henzler's 2nd in row and gives him a perfect record of 4 for 4 in Speed World Challenge races. Henzler's lap time was nearly a half second faster than Liddell. With the top 6 qualifiers under 1:20 seconds, the race should be very competitive on the fast, waterfront street circuit. Said Henzler, a native of Nuertingen, Germany, after qualifying, "I was fortunate to get a fast lap in before the yellow came out. The team prepared the car very well and it feels very strong. I am looking forward to tomorrow's race."
After the season opener at Sebring in March, Henzler enters the weekend 4th in points and poised to challenge for the championship. While Henzler is the reigning Porsche Super Cup Champion, the team's most recent success was a first place GT finish at the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, where Henzler joined Dominik Farnbacher, another Super Cup regular, Pierre Ehret, a veteran Porsche competitor, and Shawn Price, a multi-disciplined racer, to score a three-lap win. The win was even more impressive considering it was the team's first endurance race.
The Speed World Challenge GT race will be held on Sunday, April 3rd at 9:45 am and will be televised on Speed Channel, Sunday, April 10th at 2pm eastern. Farnbacher Loles Racing is based out of Danbury, CT. Primary Sponsor Applied Materials, Inc., is the world's largest supplier of products and services to the global semiconductor industry.
