2002 Television Package Confirmed

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (January 11, 2002) -The SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge Championships get a new name beginning in 2002 following Speedvision's change over to SPEED Channel February 4. The series will now be known as the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge.

While the name may change, the products will stay the same, with the SPEED World Challenge incorporating two separate series-the SPEED GT and SPEED Touring Car Championships-running separate races at each of the 11 venues on the current schedule.

Additionally, the SPEED World Challenge has confirmed its television package for 2002, with each individual race being broadcast on SPEED Channel in an hour-long format, tentatively scheduled for Saturday or Sunday evenings, beginning at 8:00 p.m. (Eastern). The full television schedule will be released when available.

"SPEED Channel is happy to continue its relationship with the World Challenge Championships," said Jim Liberatore, Speedvision President. "This is a series that both Speedvision and SCCA Pro Racing have put a lot of time into, elevating it to one of the most exciting motorsports television products. We're proud to continue with the series as the SPEED World Challenge."

Speedvision became the title sponsor of the World Challenge in 1999, part of a five-year contract running through the 2003 season. The series has a television contract with the network through 2004.

"While Speedvision may be under new ownership and we may be getting a new name, the SPEED GT and Touring Car products will be the same as in 2001," said Mitch Wright, SCCA Pro Racing Vice President and General Manager. "Our partnership with Speedvision has been very positive for the series, and we look forward to continuing that with SPEED Channel."

The 2002 SPEED World Challenge GT and Touring Car Championship seasons start March 13-15 at Sebring International Raceway.
