Atlanta, GA. (January 8, 2002) -- SpeedSport LLC. and OPM Motorsports announced today plans to campaign a Mazda Protégé ES in the 2002 Speed World Challenge Touring Car Championship with long time endurance driver Robert Baxter.

"I am thrilled to be making the move into World Challenge this year," said Baxter, "especially with Tom Fowler of OPM Motorsports and John Sherk," who will take on crew chief duties. "After years behind the wheel I'm looking forward to working the other side of the wall," said Sherk, "our goal is to compete for Rookie of the Year honors."

OPM Motorsports has been preparing stock based racing cars for over 10 years with an impressive list of results which includes 3 top five finishes and 1 class victory at the 2001 American Road Racing Championship races recently held at Road Atlanta.

Baxter has 10 years of road racing experience in both the United States and Canada, finishing 6th overall in the 1995 Toyo Street Stock Endurance Championship driving a Mazda Miata for Protomotive in Compact class. In 2001 after 4 years away from racing Baxter competed in select Grand-Am Cup series events.

Supporting sponsorship will be provided by Games & Things, Wheel Store and LTB Motorsport.
