It was a wild Speedvision GT opener at Texas Motor Speedway March 4, with six different car makes running in the top-five at some point. Michael Galati's Audi S4 Competition took the win over Peter Cunningham (Acura NSX), Randy Pobst (Porsche), Mike Fitzgerald (Porsche) and Jeff McMillin (BMW M3). Boris Said led the most laps in his Ford Mustang, and look for an onslaught of Corvette C5s to run well at Sebring after going on a 100 lb. diet and getting larger front tires since Texas.
It was BMW 328is sweeping the Speedvision Touring Car podium at the power-friendly Texas track, but look for Acura and Mazda to make a serious run at the long and twisty Sebring track. Steve Pfeffer led Neal Sapp and Alfred duPont at Texas, followed by defending series Champion Pierre Kleinubing (Acura Integra R). British Touring Car standout David Leslie proved the Mazda 626 to be competitive, running in the top-three in practice and finishing sixth in the race. Watch for Paul Bonaccorsi's new Mazda Protege to move to the front as the car is developed.
Reigning SCCA Valvoline Runoffs Touring 1 Champion Fred Baker will make his Speedvision GT debut in an ex-Champion Racing Audi S4 Competition this weekend.
