3R Racing Begins West Coast Swing
Englewood, Colorado - 3R Racing will embark on the SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge GT series West Coast swing with round seven to be run at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California. Tommy Archer and Tim Wiens will take to the track in their Viper Competition Coupes on Saturday, July 16th.
Tommy Archer has been able to hold down the second place position in the series driver's points standings despite his twelfth place at Cleveland and ninth place at Lime Rock. Tim Wiens currently stands in eleventh position.
Tommy Archer, driver of the number 1/c3controls/3R Viper, has had two disappointing runs. The Duluth, Minnesota resident is coming up on two tracks where he has traditionally performed very well. At Infineon in 2004 he finished third and went onto win the next event at Portland.
"There is very little opportunity to pass at Infineon so you need to get a good start. With my restrictor the starts have been a little sluggish. You have to have a car that transitions well, because there are so many turns and left/right combinations. The car has to want to go through the turns, you can't force it."
"We need a good run at the next two events to stay in contention for the championship."
Tim Wiens, team owner and driver of the number 3/FirstTier Bank/3R Viper, finished in ninth place last year at the track located in California Wine Country. "The team has done well in the past at Infineon. We know the track and have a good baseline setup. Thursday's practice will help us to fine tune for any changes that have occurred over the past year and the heat. The next three events will be really important for us, Infineon and Portland we need to get back some points we lost at Cleveland and Lime Rock and then Denver is my hometown, we won't need much motivation for that one."
Round seven at Infineon will be run on Saturday, July 16th and televised on the Speed Channel, Sunday, July 17th at 1:30 p.m. EST.
