Scott Bradley to return to SCCA Speed World Challenge Competition at Mosport with OPM Motorsports.
CUMMING, Ga. (May 8, 2003) - After a nine-month absence from SCCA Speed World Challenge Touring Car competition, Scott Bradley announced today that he will be getting back behind the wheel of a Mazdaspeed Protege with OPM Motorsports, for the Mosport International Raceway and Lime Rock Park rounds of the championship.
"I am extremely excited to be coming back to the series and continuing to be a part of the Mazda family of racers," said Bradley, the 2001 Star Mazda Series North American Champion. "I have to then thank Tom Fowler of OPM Motorsports and Mazdaspeed for the opportunity to return to competition.
"I was able to run the first half of the 2002 season with some good results straight-away, including the first-ever pole position for a Mazda Protege at Mosport, but, in missing the second half of the season, I am chomping at the bit to get back on track at Mosport. I feel that I have some serious unfinished business in the series."
"Having raced against him, when I was driving last season, it will be great to race with him," said Fowler, OPM Motorsports team owner. "We feel extremely lucky that Scott was still available this early in the season, knowing how fast he is, and we feel he'll fit in well with the team."
In preparation for his return to the cockpit, Bradley recently traveled to the team's shop in Georgia, from his home in San Jose, Calif., to meet the team members and get fitted to the car and came away praising the organization.
"I was impressed with the enthusiasm, focus and determination of everybody at OPM Motorsports, and look forward to working with them," said Bradley. "In addition to being a great team, they have a great driver in my teammate Chuck Hemmingson. Having raced against Chuck last year, I know how good he is and I think working together we can push for race wins and the Manufacturers' title for Mazda."
While the deal is set for only the next two races, Bradley hopes that he can secure a package to allow him to complete the rest of the season. He is pleased that this current opportunity will allow him to return and defend last year's pole position at Mosport as well as his front-row start at Lime Rock Park.
"Ask any driver and they'll tell you it is tough being out of the car," said Bradley. "While these drivers all have one race under their belts this season, I feel that working with OPM and Chuck will allow me to get back up to speed quickly."
Round Two of the SCCA Speed Touring Car Championship, at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, is scheduled for May 16-18. Round Three, from Lime Rock Park in Lime Rock, Conn., will be held the following weekend.
