SAN DIEGO OFF FOR SPEEDVISION WORLD CHALLENGE IN 2000
ENGLEWOOD, Colo.—Due to construction delays for the inaugural November, 1999 San Diego Grand Prix, the initial event will now take place February 26-27, 2000, eliminating the November 4-5, 2000 date that was previously announced for the Speedvision World Challenge Championships. The February date for the San Diego Grand Prix is too early in the year to be part of the 2000 World Challenge schedule, and the debut of the San Diego Grand Prix will now solely feature the American Le Mans Series as its headline event. Five of the planned 10 race dates on the 2000 Speedvision World Challenge Championship schedule have been announced. The remaining venues and dates will be released when details are available. "It's unfortunate to cancel our participation in the San Diego Grand Prix, but we understand the difficulties they've encountered and support the decision to change their inaugural date to next February," said K.C. Van Niman, SCCA Pro Racing President and CEO. "We’re confident that we will find a suitable replacement for the San Diego event, and look to have the remainder of the schedule announced in the next two weeks.”
