Turner Motorsport's Will Turner takes the pole at Road Atlanta.
Proper preparation and focus puts the #92 car in a position to win.
Atlanta - October 10, 2002 - For the second time this year, Will Turner captured the Woody's pole position for the SPEED World Challenge Touring car class. Turner also sat on the pole earlier this season at Mosport. On his way, Turner, in the Turner Motorsports / H&R Springs / Trenton Forging BMW 325i, established a new track record. He surpassed the old record by 2.180 seconds. In doing so, Turner gained valuable championship driver points and came closer to earning BMW their second consecutive manufacturer's championship.
Turner was pleased with his accomplishment and the outcome for BMW.
"BMWs are my life," said Turner, who owns Turner Motorsport, a BMW performance company. "Any time BMW wins something like the World Challenge Manufacturers' Championship, it's a benefit to me, my race team and my business.
Turner sits fourth in points in the drivers' championship. His pole position earns him two points and puts him closer to eclipsing Paul Bonacorrsi, in third. Current points leaders, Cunningham [1st] and Kleinubing [2nd] qualified second and third respectively.
"I guess when I have a good lap, I have a good lap," said Turner. "I was able to get a nice draft down the back straight. I could feel it and that was my lap. Later on in the session, I think someone must have dropped some oil on the track, because it became slippery and no one was able to improve on their times."
Turner Motorsport welcomes Trenton Forging as a new sponsor to the #92 car. Trenton Forging is located in Trenton Michigan and is a leading producer of custom die forgings to a wide variety of industries.
