September 23, 2004 -- Braselton, Georgia - Leighton Reese, of Minnetonka, MN, qualified a strong 6th in Thursday's qualifying session for Friday's SPEED World Challenge GT race here at Road Atlanta. Reese and his Banner Engineering Chevrolet Corvette recorded 1:28.398 which was about a half a second off the pole time recorded by Max Angelelli in the factory supported Cadillac CTS-V.

"Compared to yesterday's performance we are pretty happy with 6th," Reese said.

"I think it is going to be a pretty good race," Leighton said. "I think we have a car that will stay under us for a long time so if we can make it through the start and make it through the first lap the rest of the race should hopefully come our way."

We did a long run test on Wednesday and we pretty much stuck with Andy Pilgrim (driver of the #8 Cadillac CTS-V) so we know what we have for the middle of the race," Reese added with a smile. "I think that the race pace will be in the low 29's and I think that we can lap comfortable at that pace."

Reese and crew chief Joe Kantarik made drastic changes to the setup on the Banner Corvette based on finding the wheel bearing problem and changing track conditions.

"The new guy on the team found a faulty wheel bearing on the left rear which would explain some of the handling woes we have been chasing all weekend," Reese said after the session. "We had been chasing a loose condition all week but now that we found the problem to be a bad wheel bearing the car would probably have way too much push in it."

Reese currently stands 7th in the World Challenge GT Drivers Championship and would love to eat into the 25 point gap to Phil McClure in 6th position. If he can catch and pass McClure that would make Leighton Reese the top Corvette driver in the series.

Coming off of the worst weekend of the season at Road America Leighton Reese and the Banner Engineering racing team are very happy to be back in the mix for Friday's Round 9 of the SPEED World Challenge GT Series at Road Atlanta.

Round 9 of the SPEED World Challenge GT Series will begin on Friday September 24th at 3:55 PM Eastern Time. The race can be seen at Sunday September 26th at 1:00 PM Eastern Time on the SPEED Network on tape replay.
