Attention turns to Turner after Auberlen clinches Championship

Road Atlanta, Braselton, GA - 10/17/2003 - Yesterday's qualifying session for the penultimate round of the Speed Touring Car Championship saw a top five starting position go to Bill Auberlen and eleventh spot to Will Turner. While Bill Auberlen has already secured the Driver's Championship for this year, Will Turner still has a fight on his hands as he sits two points away from second place. Today's race rolls off at 11:30am (Eastern time). BMW can win the Manufacturer's Championship with a sixth place finish.

Auberlen is the 2003 Touring Car Driver's Champion for Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs/Allshocks.com after a second place in Laguna Seca back in September. In June of this year at Road Atlanta he led from flag to flag to begin a string of five podium finishes. He is also leading the Speed GT Driver's points in a BMW M3.

Will Turner sits in third place in the Championship and only two points back from second. Will led last year's Road Atlanta event and started from the first row. His competition experience at Road Atlanta will be invaluable as the race progresses.

Frank Selldorff returns to the Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs team for the remaining two races. He will be driving the #94 BMW 325i and starting the race from the twenty-third position.

A BMW only has to finish sixth or better in either of the two remaining races (Road Atlanta or Puerto Rico) to win the Manufacturer's Championship. Thanks to podium finishes at every race this season (seven out of eight races has had a Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs BMW driver on the podium) BMW has an eighteen-point lead over rival Acura.

Today's race kicks off at 11:30am. Live Timing & Scoring can be seen on SCCA's website, www.world-challenge.com. The Speed Channel premiers the Road Atlanta round on Saturday, November 8 at 5:00pm.
