Galati wins Road America.
Elk Hart Lake, Wis.- Michael Galati was able to capitalize on his pole position to drive his Champion Audi/Audi S4 Competition to victory in round five of the SCCA Pro Racing Speed Channel GT Series at Road America today.
Galati was able to get a great quattro start to lead all 17 laps in the rolling hills of Elk Hart Lake. "I had a really good start. I looked in my rearview mirror and saw the Porsche and Acura battling for position and I just put my head down and drove. The Champion Audi didn't miss a beat all weekend, it is nice to put two wins in a row together."
Derek Bell, driving the number two Legends of Motorsport Audi S4 Competition, was able to improve on his tenth place qualifying effort to finish seventh and win the Rogaine Hair raising pass award of $500. "I didn't get a particularly good start, I was boxed in and couldn't get a hole and I lost a position. I was able to overtake the Porsche through the fast kink and that allowed me improve on my lap times by a half-second," said Bell.
Joel Nelson, driving the number three Champion Audi/Audi S4 Competition, had some tough luck with a hose coming loose on the turbo and ending his day on lap six. "I felt good in fifth, the car was working well and the race was unfolding in my favor. All of sudden the car started to loose some power and we ended our day early. I am a better driver thanks to racing with Champion at Mid-Ohio and here, it has been a great experience," said Nelson.
"Michael had a another great race. Derek was able to make up some places from his qualifying position and finish a competitive seventh. Joel had some tough luck with the turbo hose, but really did a nice job in a competitive series," said Rod Bymaster, manager Audi Sport.
The Road America race will air on the Speed Channel on July 27 at 9:00 p.m.
