Golinello Wins in Florida; PRI Appearance with Ford Racing
JUPITER, Fla.--Richard Golinello got back to his winning ways last weekend, taking home finishes of first and second during the NASA Florida season finale at Palm Beach International Raceway.
Golinello promised to get in as much racing as possible in preparation for the 2011 SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge season, and this weekend marked Golinello's fourth event of his "off season." The busy schedule has been paying off: in addition to a number of first-place trophies, Golinello has also been able to concentrate on further developing his No. 55 R&C Motorsports Ford Mustang FR500S.
Crew Chief Mark Canup has been an integral part of that development. Golinello entered the American Iron class at PBIR, finishing second on Saturday and first on Sunday. The win came after making positive adjustments to the Mustang.
"With the help of Mark and Long Road Racing, we found another half a second for Sunday," says Golinello. "I had a great battle right to the end in that race."
He had to battle for the win, but Golinello isn't complaining. In addition to making him a better driver, the competition is a lot of fun, too. "I would gap the second-place driver, and he'd catch up every time," Golinello says. "If I made a tiny mistake, he'd be right there to try to take advantage of it."
Finally, Golinello was able to get through lapped traffic with more agility than his competitor, and he used the braking zones to his advantage. The skills resulted in a win.
"It was a good weekend: the car performed well, I had fun and I came away with no extra paint on my car," laughs Golinello. A pristine car is a good thing since it will be on display this weekend.
Golinello will take a break from racing to head to Orlando, Florida, for the Performance Racing Industry show. His R&C Motorsports Mustang will be a feature of the Ford Racing display at the Hilton adjacent to the Orange County Convention Center.
The PRI show marks one of the few winter weekends when Golinello's Mustang will actually be sitting still.
