San Juan, Puerto Rico - 10/23/2003 - The Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs/Allshocks.com team arrived in warm, sunny Puerto Rico with their BMWs to complete the 2003 Speed Touring Car Championship and put Will Turner into the second spot. This is the first time the Touring Car series has traveled to Puerto Rico where BMWs and racing flourish. The Puerto Rico round will be the last for the celebrated 2003 season.
Puerto Rico has emerged in recent years as a playground for BMWs. Backed by the strong Puerto Rico chapter of the BMW Car Club of America - and with tuning parts from Turner Motorsport - BMW owners here are as enthusiastic as anywhere else. The Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs/Allshocks.com team has been excited for this race weekend all year as many of the motor racing fans here are customers and friends.
"We have fans everywhere we go," team owner Will Turner smiles. "But I knew that Puerto Rico would be much more special. We have a lot of customers here and our guys and girls are excited to finally meet them. I've actually had people from Puerto Rico calling the shop all year to tell us how great they're going to make our weekend! Plus it's the last race of our Championship-winning season."
While Bill Auberlen has already secured the Touring Car Driver's Title, his teammate Will Turner still has a chance at grabbing second place. The track in Puerto Rico will be very similar to the street circuits that Will Turner loves. His skill on street courses is well known and will bring on a potent drive to the checkered flag.
Practice sessions get under way Friday morning and afternoon, as well as Saturday morning. Qualifying takes place on Saturday afternoon at 2:50pm Eastern. From there Bill Auberlen, Will Turner, and Frank Selldorff will take the start of the final round in the Championship on Sunday, October 26 at 12:30pm Eastern. Series sponsor, The Speed Channel will begin their broadcasts of this round on Saturday, November 15 at 4pm Eastern.
