Hayner Ready For Portland
GMAC/Trenton Forging #5 GTO Has Good Test Session

Portland, Ore. -- July 23, 2004 Taking advantage of a promoter's test day at the Portland International Raceway, the GMAC/Trenton Forging #5 GTO team took a look at different options as they prepared for Sunday's SPEED World Challenge GT Round 5 that will run in conjunction with the Portland Grand Prix.

"We tried some things that got the car pretty lose," said driver, Stu Hayner. "But, quite honestly we're not sure if the lose condition was completely due to the changes or the extremely high temperatures we're experiencing here in the Northwest. The track was pretty slick. Regardless, we've been struggling with a push condition all along, so at least we can adjust back to find a middle ground. I'm not sure we'll be able to use what we learned, but it will definitely make a difference when we get to Mosport next month."

The team was also required to add baffling to the system in order to bring the cars decibel readings within the raceway's required 110db.

"It's a bit odd," commented team owner, David Moxlow. "I have considerable experience in this area due to our company's interaction with the city where we have our plant. [Trenton Forging is located in Trenton Michigan] Hard copies of our numbers at Infineon last week reported us at 104-105 db. The Series' requires 110db-- as does the city of Portland. How we would be under one day and over the next is questionable. We've added some restriction to the exhaust and the car is compliant now. We were taken by surprise, though."

Hayner's times Friday morning showed him running mid-pack as the team continued to dial the car in for Sunday's race. The race will air on SPEED, August 1st at 1pm EST.
