Nic Jonsson signs with Tecmark Auto Sport for Mosport and Lime Rock Park SCCA Speed Touring Car events.
TOPEKA, Kan. (May 8, 2003) -- Tecmark Auto Sport announced today that Swedish road racing standout Nic Jonsson will join the team for the next two events on the SCCA Speed Touring Car Championship schedule, at Mosport International Raceway and Lime Rock Park, driving the team's BMW 325Ci.
"It is great to have Nic join the team," said team owner Walter Swick. "Tecmark's goal is to become more involved in car building and race support and putting a first-class driver in our car helps accomplish that goal. Building the car from the ground up has presented its share of challenges and now it's time to see how well our driver/car combination does in a real contest."
Jonsson, 35, who previously drove with BMW Team PTG in the American Le Mans Series for two years, boasts an impressive background that includes racing touring cars, sports cars and open wheel cars. He won the SRPII class in the 2002 Rolex Sports Car Series and drove for Dyson Racing in the 2001 24 Hours of Daytona as well as capturing the 1992 Scandinavian Touring Car title. His open-wheel career includes runner-up finishes in the 1992 European Formula Three Cup and the 1995 Formula Asia series. Early in his career, he drove for Paul Stewart Racing and teamed with Gil de Ferran and David Coulthard.
"I'm excited to join the team and be back behind the wheel of a BMW," said Jonsson. "The Tecmark team really has a first class organization."
