New SPEED World Challenge Fan Site Launched on the World Wide Web
DETROIT - Feb 23, 2005 Observing spectacular growth of SCCA Pro Racing's SPEED World Challenge and its billing as 'the most relevant road racing series in the world,' Todd Benne (formerly of the Trans-Am Internet League) has teamed up with motorsports photographer, John Thawley, to launch TRACKBYTES.COM on the Internet.
"We want this viewed as an acknowledgement of the hard work that Steve Johnson, Mitch Wright, Eric Prill and others have put into growing the World Challenge series," said Benne. "We look forward to working closely with them and doing whatever we can to further the effort of bringing SPEED World Challenge racing to the fans."
"My company, Creative Communications Group, had the resources to help Todd make this happen," added Thawley. "People who know me know how much I believe in this Series. And, Todd and I had been talking about doing something together for quite sometime. We looked at the cars, the drivers, the sanctioning body and all the people that make it happen and suddenly, this was a no-brainer. This was the right project. We hope this will be a reflection of our belief in SCCA Pro Racing and the people that make it happen."
"I look at these cars and watch the battles on the track," said Todd, "and I'm completely blown away. This is were it's at... this is the 'pony wars' of day's gone by. I think what John and I have put together is going to add another layer of enthusiasm to the Series and compliment the great job the SCCA has done building and growing the World Challenge Series."
"John was the perfect partner for this," continued Benne. "He has built Websites for Penske Motorsports, Chicago Motor Speedway, California Speedway, Michigan Speedway, North Carolina Speedway, Nazareth, AutoSport Development, Revolution Motorsports, Pontiac Racing, Specter Werkes, Rocketsports and Trans-Am. You could say he's been around this a bit... and he gets things done!"
In addition to team news, race results and Thawley's photographs, TRACKBYES.COM will feature exclusive one-on-one interviews with people inside the sport. Already online are interviews with Leighton Reese, Bob Raub and Randy Pobst. Other guests include Andy Pilgrim, Will Turner, Dave Spitzer, Peter Cunningham, Stu Hayner and more. TRACKBYTES also features a fan discussion board called SHOPTALK.
"Believe it or not," said Thawley, "SHOPTALK is now one of the longest running racing discussion boards on the Web. I originally launched it in 1995 as part of another site I owned called American Racing Scene at racecar.com. I sold the domain a few years ago, but moved SHOPTALK under the TRACKBYTES.COM domain and kept it going. It had a following and it wasn't a lot of effort to keep it open for them. So, in fact, it's been running non-stop for 10 years"
The site has been officially launched and can be seen at www.trackbytes.com on a Web browser near you.
