Bradley takes first career Speed Touring Car Woody'S Ice Pole.
CANADA (May 18, 2002) -- Rookie Scott Bradley, of Mountain View, Calif., captured his first career SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge Touring Car Woody's Ice Pole Position, topping a 48-car field in his Mazda Prot0x7a60ES at Mosport International Raceway. Defending race and series Champion Pierre Kleinubing, of Brazil, and Will Turner, of Newburyport, Mass., completed the top three.
Bradley turned a fast lap of 1:35.522 (96.065 mph) in the No. 14 Mazda/TriPoint Motorsports entry to capture the first ever pole for the Prot0x7a6e
"It feels really good to win the first pole for the Mazda Prot0x7a6c" said Bradley, who won the open-wheeled STAR Mazda series title in 2001. "I'm still getting accustomed to running in a sedan, but I think there is some more speed left in the car. Pierre [Kleinubing] is still the guy to beat here though, so this is going to be a great race."
Kleinubing, who won last year's race in spectacular fashion, spinning back to 11th on the first lap and battling to the win in the last turn, drove the No. 1 RealTime Racing Acura Integra R to a lap of 1:35.611 (95.489 mph). Turner, who led practice Friday in his No. 92 Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs BMW 325i, was third with a lap of 1:35.861 (95.726 mph).
Ken Dobson, of Carmel Valley, Calif., will line up fourth, followed by James Sofronas, of Newport Beach, Calif. Today's race starts at 1:30 p.m. Eastern.
