Turner captures pole at Mosport with new track record.

CANADA (August 17, 2002) - Will Turner, of Newburyport, Mass., captured his first SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Woody's Ice Pole Position today at Mosport International Raceway, part of the mail2web.com Grand Prix of Mosport. Paul Bonnacorsi, of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Chuck Hemmingson, of W. Des Moines, Iowa, completed the top three.

Driving the No. 92 H&R Springs/Turner Motorsport BMW 325i, Turner wasted no time moving to the top of the time chart with a 1:34.581 [93.595 mph] on his first flying lap. His time was the only of the 34-car field to break into the 1:34 range.

"This feels awesome," said Turner. "We really deserve this. The practice we've done here, the effort the team has put in, and the exclamation point today was the draft I got on my pole lap. I got the draft, I don't remember who it was from, at the very best possible place on the track-the back straight.

"This is right where we should be from a team standpoint. We have done most of our testing here, especially this season. We've done a total of six test days at Mosport this year. Four years and our first pole? It's about time!"

With two minutes remaining in the 30-minute qualifying session, Bonaccorsi was able to put together his fastest lap of the session in the No. 40 TriPoint Mazaspeed Protégé and grab second spot on the starting grid, his best grid position of the season.

Hemmingson, driving the No. 19 Mazda/OPM Motorsports/Crocotile Mazdaspeed Protégé, ran near the front the entire qualifying session and put together a best lap of 1:35.083 [93.101 mph].

Mike Fitzgerald, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ken Dobson, of Carmel Valley, Calif., completed the top five.

Round Eight of the SPEED World Challenge Touring Car will begin its 28-lap event Sunday at 10:35 a.m. (EDT).
