GMAC/Trenton Forging ...

GMAC/Trenton Forging #5 GTO Will Not Start Round 7
Transmission fails in qualifying

Bowmanville, Ont. -- August 7, 2004 The #5 GMAC / Trenton Forgin GTO will not make the grid for the second World Challenge GT race at Mosport. Mosport was scheduled as a double header for the GT class in the SPEED World Challenge Series. The second race will start Sunday at 4:05pm EST.

Substituting for Stu Hayner, Jim Osborn qualified the #5 GMAC Commercial Finance/Trenton Forging GTO 18th.

"The car was handling well I was really starting to get comfortable in it," said Osborn. "We were happy with our time but stayed out just to get more track time. All of sudden I started hearing noises and the engine going into free revs. I got it off the track and did a couple of spins with no damage to the car. Unfortunately, it appears the ring gear went back into the transmission and ripped everything out. I ended up holding the shifter lever in my hand."

"I'm really disappointed," Osborn continued. "The GTO is a great car and I was really looking forward to running with the Autosport Development crew."

Hayner left Mosport for Mid-Ohio immediately following the race. There he'll compete in the Grand Am Rolex Cup race. Jim Osborn, was scheduled to step into the #5 GMAC Commercial Finance/Trenton Forging GTO for the second GT race on Sunday. A regular in the SPEED World Challenge Touring Car series driving the Children's Hospital #24 BMW, Jim first began road-racing automobiles in 1996 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with the BMWCCA Club Racing Program.
