2002 winner of Mid Ohio race looks for repeat
Mid Ohio Sportscar Course, OH - 08/09/2003 - Turner Motorsport comes off its third win of the year two weeks ago and takes over Mid Ohio Sportscar Course this weekend as part of the Speed Touring Car Championship. Bill Auberlen, driver of the #93 Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs/Bilsteinshocks.com BMW 325i, leads the Driver's Championship with teammate Will Turner also in the top five. The Turner Motorsport team is no stranger to Mid Ohio having won here last year with Will Turner behind the wheel.
Bill Auberlen has led the Speed Touring Car Championship since winning the round 4 race at Road Atlanta. His win two weeks ago at Infineon/Sears Point Raceway boosted his lead to 32 points over second place. His three wins this year have come from the front row in his BMW 325i with fastest laps adding to his series lead.
Will Turner won the Mid Ohio round last year for his team. Will is coming off a sixth-place finish in the last round at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, California. Turner is hoping to capitalize on that result and use it to gain momentum on his rivals in the Championship. He is currently in fifth place overall for the season and only a few points back from third. A good result here, at a track he has previously conquered, could boost Turner and Auberlen together in the top three in Championship points.
Bilsteinshocks.com joins Turner Motorsport this weekend, as a sponsor on each of the three Turner Motorsport BMWs. Bilsteinshocks.com is one of the country's largest wholesale-direct retailers of Bilstein shock absorbers for cars, trucks, SUVs, and motorhomes. Bilsteinshocks.com and Allshocks.com offer extensive online resources for choosing the perfect shock for your vehicle with a comprehensive catalog, online tutorials, and other information.
The round 6 race at Mid Ohio has practice and qualifying on Saturday with the 50-minute race kicking off at 8:55am on Sunday. Over 40 cars are expected to take to the track for this race - the second in a string of five races stretching into September. The Speed Channel will begin their broadcasts of the Mid Ohio round of the Speed Touring Car Championship on Friday, August 22 at 9pm.
