LEXINGTON, Ohio (Aug. 8, 2003) -- TriPoint Motorsports teammates Shauna Marinus, of Folsom, Calif., and Jeff Altenburg, of Ellicott City, Md., were the quickest in the Friday afternoon SCCA Speed World Challenge Touring Car practice session at Mid-Ohio.

Marinus, driver of the No. 4 TriPoint Motorsports Mazda Protege ES, set the pace late in the practice session turning a lap of 1:39.121 (82.009 mph). Her lap time was faster than the Speed Touring Car qualifying record set last year at Mid-Ohio by Paul Lambert who drove a lap of 1:40.843.

"I felt like we were fast," Marinus said of her quick lap in the first practice session. "We knew what the track record was here last year. And, we were just trying to see where we were running in comparison to that. So we had a feeling, but until qualifying, it is hard to ever really know where anything is going to windup, because so many people do tremendous things in qualifying."

No. 40 Altenburg also turned his fastest lap, with a 1:39.400 (81.778 mph), late in the session. The third quickest in practice was the No. 64 King Motorsports Acura RSX-S driven by Bob Endicott, of San Pedro, Calif., who turned a lap of 1:39.604 (81.611 mph).

The second practice session for SCCA Speed World Challenge Touring Car at Mid-Ohio is scheduled for 12:40 p.m. (EDT) Saturday, Aug. 9.

Qualifying for the Champ Car Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio SCCA Speed World Challenge Touring Car race is set for 4:45 p.m. (EDT) Saturday, Aug. 9.
