Another Nissan Podium at Mid-Ohio

June 26, 2004 - Lexington, Ohio -- Peter Cunningham again put TeamRTR and its Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V on the podium at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course today with the car's second consecutive third place finish in the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED Touring Car Championship.

Cunningham qualified third in his NISMO Sentra SE-R for the 27-lap race, one of 34 drivers to eclipse the qualifying record on the 2.258-mile road course.

Although he fell to fourth after the standing start, Cunningham held a fierce grasp on the lead pack throughout the show. He moved back into the third position for good on lap 23 when he passed series points leader Bill Auberlen under braking at the end of the five-eighths mile back straight.

"The pace of the top five was tremendous for 27 straight laps and I wasn't sure I'd be able to move up in the order," Cunningham said, "but with the help of lapped traffic I was able to make a run on Bill, and stick the Nissan Sentra's nose into the opening and keep it there."

Cunningham also voiced his pride at the progress the Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V has made in its first full year of competition.

"A number of manufacturers came into the Touring Car Championship long before Nissan did, and some of them have yet to win a race. Starting out with a quality product like the Nissan Sentra made that job easier," he said.

"We won our first race in Nissan's sixth outing last year, and this year we're improving with each race to where we now go into a race with the feeling we're good for constant podium finishes."

Cunningham is fourth in the series points after three races, while Nissan sits a strong third in the chase for the Manufacturers' Championship.

Rounds Four and Five of the ten-event Touring Car Championship take place on July 17 and 18 at Sonoma, California's Infineon Raceway.

The TeamRTR Nissan Sentra SE-R effort is sponsored by Nissan North America, Inc., NISMO, Red Line Oil, Eibach Springs, BOSCH, Sport Compact Car, Sparco, Brembo and Memphis Car Audio.
