A Decent Points Day
LEXINGTON, OH (July 20, 2008) - On a hot day at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Randy finished a satisfying sixth place in the World Challenge GT race in his #1 K-PAX/3R Racing Porsche 911 GT3. Randy started from the seventh qualifying position and got a great jump at the standing start, passing the Cadillac. When he went to pass the Aston Martin in turn three, his Porsche all of a sudden slid wide, causing him to check up and lose momentum and four positions on the track. It is still being determined whether a shove or oil on the track caused the slide. After that it became a game of catch up.
"I am very happy with sixth considering the circumstances that took place today. It was a tough race for us. Due to our good finishes so far this year, my K-PAX/3R Porsche had more rewards weight than other cars, making it heavier and thus slower. While teammate Mike Galati and I were faster in the corners and had great handling, other cars were faster and more powerful on the straight. After I fell back from the slide, I had to remain patient. It was very hard to pass cars with such horsepower that were in the mid pack. They would slow me down in the corners and other cars with more horsepower would go by. Little by little I was able to gain some positions. On the last lap, the Cadillac made a mistake and I was able to take sixth. A special thank you to Dino Crescentini in the GMG Porsche who let me go by without a fight."
"I would like to thank our KPAX team for doing a great job preparing the car. Its frustrating that rewards weight held us back. One good thing was that we got a lot of TV time when we were embroiled in the battles for the top ten. I would also like to thank my personal sponsors Team Janica Racing, Prairie Hills Motorsport Club, ChaseCam, and saferacer.com for their continued support."
Randy remains in first position in the points over Andy Pilgrim. Porsche also maintained the lead in the Manufacturers' Championship. Teammate Michael Galati finished fifth. The SCCA SPEED GT race at Mid-Ohio will air on Thursday, July 24 at 1 PM ET on SPEED. The next World Challenge GT race will be at Road America, August 8 - 10.
