LEXINGTON, Ohio (June 29, 2002) -- Michael Galati, of N. Olmstead, Ohio, captured his third SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT Woody's Ice Pole Position in four races this season, and will lead the field to turn one in tomorrow's race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Johannes van Overbeek, of Danville, Calif., and Randy Pobst completed the top three.

Driving the No. 1 Champion Audi S4 Competition, Galati turned a lap of 1:34.373 (86.134 mph) around the 2.258-mile Mid-Ohio circuit for his 18th career pole position. Galati's turned the lap on his first tour around the track.

"The difference today was that you had to push hard the first lap when the tires were still cold," said Galati. "I just put my head down and went for it."

Driving the No. 81 Flextronics/Shoreline/Brocade Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, van Overbeek cut a lap of 1:34.647-just ahead of Pobst's No. 22 1st Interstate Inn/3R Racing/Damon's Porsche, who turned a lap of 1:34.718.

Jeff McMillin, of Erie, Pa., will start fourth in his BMW M3, followed by point leader Peter Cunningham, of W. Bend, Wis., in his Acura NSX SC.
