Galati'S Audi, Fitzgerald'S Lexus lead Speed World Challenge practice at Mid-Ohio.

LEXINGTON, Ohio (June 28, 2002) -- N. Olmstead, Ohio's Michael Galati and Phoenix's Mike Fitzgerald topped the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT and Touring Car charts in practice today for Sunday's Round Four races at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Driving the No. 1 Champion Audi S4 Competition, Galati turned a fast lap of 1:35.360 (85.243 mph) around the 2.258-mile circuit in the first of two sessions. Jeff McMillin topped the second session, and was second fast on the day in his BMW M3 with a lap of 1:35.493 (85.124 mph). Randy Pobst, of Melbourne, Fla., Johannes van Overbeek, of Danville, Calif., and Peter Cunningham, of W. Bend, Wis., completed the top five.

Fitzgerald topped both SPEED Touring Car sessions in the No. 81 Team FBR/Trans Sport Lexus IS 300, cutting his fastest lap in the first session, with a 1:40.188 (81.135 mph). Will Turner's BMW 325i was second fastest on the day, with a lap of 1:41.173 (80.345 mph), almost a full second off first place. It is the first time in series history that a Lexus automobile has topped the charts in pre-qualifying practice.

Chuck Hemmingson, of W. Des Moines, Iowa, Charles Espenlaub, of Lutz, Fla., and Ken Dobson, of Carmel Valley, Calif., completed the top five.

Woody's Ice Pole Position Qualifying for Sunday's races will begin at 4:15 p.m. Saturday afternoon for SPEED GT and 4:40 p.m. for SPEED Touring Car.
