Henzler wins Mid-Ohio, shows true color.
May, 21-Lexington, Ohio - The Applied Materials Farnbacher Loles Porsche GT3 Cup showed its true colors by winning the Mid-Ohio round of the Speed World Challenge GT series. Wolf Henzler started on the pole and led the entire race to notch his first victory of the season. Sporting a new blue color scheme of sponsor Applied Materials, the car ran strong all weekend. After the race Henzler said, "Maybe for the next race we will paint everything blue." While he led the whole way, Henzler worked hard to stay at the front. The Porsche was hounded throughout the race by the Cadillacs of John Heinricy and Max Papis who finished in 2nd and 3rd place.
Said team principal Greg Loles, "We're happy to finally break through. We've been competitive all year but we have had some bad luck. It's great to put together this win. Now we need to continue the momentum. We expect to be a factor in both the manufacturer and drivers championships. Our thanks go out to Applied Materials for their strong support. Congratulations to Wolf. It was a great win for the team."
Peter Goebel, head of racing operations added, "I second what Greg said. This was an extremely important win for us. The primary reason for our success this weekend is that all of the set-up changes which our technical director Horst Farnbacher made during practice and qualifying turned out to be very positive. The car handled extremely well as indicated by the results. Wolf was very comfortable in the car."
Henzler, who had never raced at the rolling Mid-Ohio course prior to this event, now trails series points leader Tommy Archer by only 23 points. The series now moves to Cleveland for the next race. The Farnbacher Loles Racing team is based in Danbury, CT. Primary Sponsor Applied Materials, Inc., is the world's largest supplier of products and services to the global semiconductor industry. The Mid-Ohio Speed World Challenge GT race will be televised on Speed Channel, Saturday, May 28 at 4 pm eastern.
