WILMINGTON, Del. (February 28, 2003) -- DuPont Motorsports announced today that Barber Dodge alumnus Matt Plumb will campaign the #50 SANZ/ERT BMW for the 2003 season of SCCA Pro Racing's Speed World Challenge Touring Car Championship.

"I am very excited to compete this year in the Speed World Challenge and very grateful to duPont Motorsports for giving me this opportunity," said Plumb, a Newport, Rhode Island native. "With the BMW the team has the equipment and the talent to make it a Championship contender and I will do my best to complement their efforts. I am really looking forward to the first race at Sebring, March 14th".

Plumb began his racing career in 1997 in the Skip Barber Race Series, the fundamental stepping-stone for drivers such as Michael Andretti and Juan Montoya. After winning the championship in just his first year, Plumb moved up the ladder towards his ultimate aspiration, the Champ Car World Series, into the Barber Dodge Pro Series in 1999.

A Championship contender throughout his Pro Series career, his series highlights include three race wins, 10 podium finishes and four pole positions. During the 2001 season, he scored a top-five finish in every one of his Pro Series race starts.

After the 2001 season Plumb had his sites on pursuing his open-wheel career in the 2002 Toyota Atlantic Championship but sponsorship shortfalls prevented a proper race budget to be put together, forcing Plumb out of the car for the season.

Plumb is still seeking to move up the ladder into the Champ Cars, and is determined to keep racing whatever he can get his hands on to show his speed. Plumb is excited about his new team, a front-running effort with several seasons of experience in the category.

"My motivation is to win races and Championships. We are actively pursuing offers and opportunities in Toyota Atlantic and IRL, but so far a competitive package that will allow a real shot at a Championship has not quite come together. It is critical to stand out in any series, and I am not interested in racing with an uncompetitive package. I love racing GT and Touring cars, and duPont Motorsports has offered me a Championship level effort with great exposure and fan appeal. The value is there for sponsors, and I am very grateful to my new partners SANZ, with Fujitsu and Sun Microsystems."
