Once Again Lime Rock Is Seeing Blue & Yellow
LIME ROCK PARK, Lakeville, CT - 06/27/2005 - Turner Motorsport returns to Lime Rock Park for another round of the SPEED Touring Car Championship. Local hero Will Turner will be the pilot of the #2 Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs BMW 325i with BMW hot shoe Bill Auberlen behind the wheel of the #1 Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs BMW 325i. The standing start to the 50-minute sprint race gets underway on Saturday afternoon.
Lime Rock has always been a second home to the Turner Motorsport team. Team owner and company president Will Turner grew up just 20 minutes away in Collinsville, CT. The team has had excellent success here with Touring Car wins coming in 2004 and 2001, and pole positions in 2004 and 2003. The TMS success story stretches back 14 years to 1991 with Lime Rock often playing host to the team's past achievements. Bill Auberlen scored the pole and the win in 2004. Will Turner earned the pole at his last appearance at Lime Rock Park in 2003.
Will Turner, pilot #2 Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs BMW 325i: "Our team just loves the atmosphere that goes along with every Lime Rock race. We get a lot of our Turner Motorsport customers that show up in addition to all of our families and close friends. It's like a big reunion. As for the team's performance, we have somewhat of a local advantage and our BMWs are always set up really well. When we come to Lime Rock everyone knows that we're the team to beat."
2004 Speed Touring Car Champion Bill Auberlen also makes a return to Lime Rock to defend last year's victory. For Auberlen, his success with Turner Motorsport is traced directly to Lime Rock Park; his first Touring Car win came in his first drive with the team in torrential rain in 2001.
Bill Auberlen, pilot #1 Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs BMW 325i: "I'm a Californian and to come out here and get the same enthusiastic crowds that I get back home makes the whole event extra special. Turner Motorsport gets so many fans and the atmosphere is so festive that it's impossible not to have a good time. And when we win here it means a little more to me and to the fans."
Turner Motorsport teams up with H&R Springs, StopTech Brakes, B&M Racing, Borla Exhaust, Red Line Fluids, Sunoco Race Fuels, and Piloti Driving Shoes to build Championship-winning BMWs for the racetrack and race-inspired cars and parts for street-use.
The SPEED Touring Car series is for production-based sports cars and sedans with engines smaller than 2.8 liters. The Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs BMW 325i competes against teams running the Acura TSX and RSX, Mazda 6, Mercedes C230, Ford Focus, Dodge Neon SRT-4, Audi A4, and Subaru WRX in 50-minute sprint races with no pitstops. Instead of the normal rolling start behind a pace car, the cars start from a rest on the front straightway and charge to the first corner. This makes for one of the most exciting racing series in North America.
Practice and Qualifying take place on Friday with the race taking place on Saturday afternoon at 4:10pm ET. Live Timing & Scoring can be watched from the SCCA World Challenge website - www.world-challenge.com. The SPEED Channel will broadcast this race 24 hours later on Sunday, July 3 at 4:00pm.
