Cunningham tops a tight Speed Gt field during Lime Rock practice.

LAKEVILLE, Conn. (May 24, 2002) -- Peter Cunningham, of W. Bend, Wis., led a diverse SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge GT field in today's practice sessions for Sunday's Mohegan Sun Presents Lime Rock Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park. Rookie John Young, of Woodside, Calif., was second quick, followed by local driver Eric Curran, of S. Deerfield, Mass.

Driving the No. 42 RealTime Racing Acura NSX SC, Cunningham ran faster than his 2001 qualifying record, with a lap of 59.433 seconds (92.675 mph) around the 1.53-mile circuit.

Young, driving the No. 44 Contract Metal Products Saleen SR, also ran a sub-record lap, with a time of 59.507 seconds (92.560 mph) in the initial of two sessions. Neither Cunningham nor Young were able to run below the 2001 mark in the afternoon session.

Driving a limited schedule in the No. 15 KAC Technologies Chevrolet Corvette ZO6, Curran ran a lap of 59.630 seconds (92.369 mph). He was followed by the Porsches of Randy Pobst and Justin Marks. In all, 13 cars ran within one second of the fastest time, with six different marques in the top seven.

Woody's Ice Qualifying for Monday's Speed World Challenge GT race is slated for Saturday at 12:00 p.m. Eastern.
