Kane to race K-PAX McLaren in World Challenge SprintX
Former Indy Lights race winner Jonny Kane is to return to the U.S. sharing the #6 K-PAX McLaren 650S with Bryan Sellers for Pirelli World Challenge’s 10-race SprintX series.
Kane, who was confirmed as a McLaren GT Factory Driver for the 2017 season, will make his series debut at PWC’s opening SprintX two-driver event at VIRginia International Raceway, April 28-30.
Aside from his spell in Indy Lights from 1999-2000, Kane raced sportscars in the U.S. from 2001, and finished sixth in the ’02 Sebring 12 Hours.
Kane has spent seven seasons with Strakka Racing, with whom he won the LMP2 class at Le Mans in 2010 and which became a McLaren customer team this year.
Of the five-venue SprintX calendar – VIR, Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (Mosport), Lime Rock Park, Utah Motorsports Campus and Circuit of the Americas – Kane has competition experience only on the latter. However, he did test the McLaren 650S at VIR late last month.
