K-PAX Volvo team continued their domination at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course

Lexington, OH - The K-PAX Volvo team continued their domination at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this week as part of the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio presented by StopTech Brakes weekend. On Friday, Randy and his No. 6 K-PAX Racing Volvo S60 team qualified in second with teammate Alex Figge on the pole for the first race of the Pirelli World Challenge doubleheader.

"Our Volvos really do well here at Mid-Ohio. I won both of last year's races and Alex won the year before. We were very excited to have an all Volvo front row for the start and got off to a nice lead. We were running at a good pace but I had trouble with the brakes and fell into the clutches of the pack and slowly lost positions.

I was having a great battle with Andy Pilgrim's Cadillac at the end. It was a hard fought fourth. I had a scary moment after the checker when I dropped two wheels off track, passing a GTS car, and mowed the lawn with my splitter, stuffing the front nose with grass and overheating the car. The Volvo looked like it had a beard or grass skirt on it."

For Sunday's event, qualifying was set by the fastest lap times from the previous race, putting Alex again on the pole and Randy in second. At the standing start, Alex flew off into the lead but Randy's Volvo bogged and lost two positions. He recovered quickly and passed O'Connell in Turn 2 and Sofronas on the next lap. The two Volvos then said goodbye to the rest of the field and scored an impressive, top 2 podium finish.

"Alex did a great job this weekend! Something went wrong with the start program and my car bogged badly but I got going again and quickly got those two positions back. The K-PAX team worked hard to improve the car and my Volvo handled and stopped better than before. I had a clean, fast race and caught Alex at the end and followed him home for a K-PAX Volvo 1-2 finish!"

"It was fun to have my brother Gary and nephew Kamron with us for the weekend. I also got a surprise visit from my Dayton, Ohio cousins Mark, Matt, and Jenny Shampton and their spouses. I haven't seen them in years. We were also happy to have Jay Hamil and his son from Volvo North America.

I would also like to thank my girlfriend and business manager Jennifer Drews and my personal sponsors Saferacer and TPC Racing and for their support. The high point of the week for me was when Jennifer and I got to be the flag girl and boy for my good buddies Peter Schwartzott Sr and Jr before the TCB race. We had a blast."

Randy remains fourth in the GT Drivers' Championships. The Mid-Ohio races will be broadcast August 18 at 2 p.m. (EDT) on NBC Sports Network.
