Auburn Hills, Mich., -- Hurley Haywood will be driving an Audi S4 Competition in round five of the SCCA Pro Racing Speedvision World Challenge GT series to be run at the Tennaco Grand Prix of Detroit on June 17. Haywood will substitute for Audi regular Derek Bell in the number eight Legends of Motorsport Audi S4.
Five time Daytona 24-Hour winner Haywood is excited about the opportunity. "It is an honor to fill in for Derek in the Audi S4. I had the opportunity to drive the S4 a few weeks ago and was very impressed by the power. It will be like old home week for me having driven an Audi 200 quattro Trans-Am car in Detroit in 1988 and winning the race. I am confident it will be a great car on the tight Detroit circuit."
Haywood will join series points leader Michael Galati, driving the number nine Champion Audi/Audi S4 Competition, "I am looking forward to having Hurley as a teammate. He used to drive the quattro Trans-Am cars so I hope we can learn a few things from him.
"The Detroit circuit should suit our S4. It will be key to qualify up-front and get a good start."
"We are going into the race with the lead in the manufacturer's and driver's standings," said Rod Bymaster, manager of Audi Sport North America. "Hurley is a welcome addition to the team and we look forward to his input on the cars."
This will be the first time in the history of the series that the Speedvision cars will be running on the 2.36-mile, 14-turn island circuit.
