TOPEKA, Kan. (May 16, 2003) -- SCCA Pro Racing announced today that the SCCA Speed GT Championship will be the featured support event for the Aug. 2-4 Champ Car weekend at Road America, in Elkhart Lake, Wis. The event, originally scheduled to run at Road America with ALMS three weeks later in the year, will be Round Seven on the 10-race 2003 schedule.

"Running with Champ Car at one of America's finest road circuits is an incredible opportunity to feature the 50-minute thrill ride that is a SCCA Speed World Challenge event," said Mitch Wright, SCCA Pro Racing Vice President and General Manager. "In addition, this agreement guarantees that the SCCA Speed World Challenge will be a featured support series at Road America in 2004."

In addition to the SCCA Speed World Challenge, the Road America Champ Car schedule will also feature a doubleheader weekend for the SCCA Mazdaspeed Miata Cup Presented by Hankook Tires, featuring the popular Spec Miata format.

The SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge Championships are North America's top production-based road racing series. Split into two, separate classes and 50-minute races (GT and Touring Car), the series is geared toward creating an exciting product for racing fans, both at the track and watching television, that is also easy to relate with and understand.
