More Adjustments for SCCA Speed GT Field
TOPEKA, Kan. (Sept. 9, 2004) -- SCCA Pro Racing Ltd. announced today several competition adjustments to its SPEED World Challenge GT Championship field, effective immediately.
Minor positive competition adjustments were made to the Cadillac CTS-V, Chevrolet Corvette ZO6, Dodge Viper Competition Coupe, Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and Saleen SR, while a substantial negative adjustment was made to the Audi RS 6.
Positive adjustments include: a change in maximum rear-weight distribution from 48 percent to 50 percent for the Cadillac CTS-V, a 50lb weight decrease for the Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 and Dodge Viper Competition Coupe, a 100lb weight decrease for the Saleen SR and a restrictor change from 20 percent to 18 percent for the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.
The Audi RS 6 received: a 49.4 percent restrictor prior to each turbocharger (the car carried no restrictor previously); a maximum rear weight distribution of 42 percent (previously 42.5 percent); a combined limit of intercooler and brake cooling water capacity of 3.5 gallons (previously not limited); a freeze on the air intake system; a freeze on the cooling system and the removal of the standard intercoolers and air intake listed on the current Vehicle Technical Specifications (VTS), which were used only at Sebring due to parts availability.
"We've now had one car dominate half of the races this year, with Audi finishing one-two in four out of the eight races. As is the case with any of our adjustments, our goal is for any well-prepared car, run by an excellent team with excellent drivers, to compete for pole positions, podium finishes and race wins. The new information gathered at the recent rounds has helped us reach the decision to institute these changes," SCCA Pro Racing Vice President and General Manager Mitch Wright said. "We never like to make competition adjustments, particularly at this stage of the season. However, the Audis have proven to have potential far beyond the limits we have placed on the remainder of the field."
