Four-time SCCA World Challenge champion Mike Galati captured his fourth SPEED GT pole of the season this morning at Road America. Galati, driver of the Champion Audi S4, toured the 4.048-mile, 14-turn natural terrain road course in 2:23.871, at a speed of 101.290 miles per hour.

"Yesterday, I was behind [the Porsches] for most of the day, but today on the first lap I went for it," explained Galati, the current SPEED GT points leader. "I got a chance and I took it. I was glued to Johannes [van Overbeek] for the whole lap."

Van Overbeek, who currently lies fourth in the SPEED GT championship, posted the second fastest lap of the morning, less than two tenths of a second behind Galati. Van Overbeek's teammate, Justin Marks, who crashed heavily in Turn 11 near the end of this morning's 20-minute qualifying session, will line up third, followed by Peter Cunningham and Jeff McMillin.

As far as the race is concerned, Galati expects quite a challenge from the Porsches of van Overbeek and Marks. "I don't know if I can hold the lead for more than one lap because brakes are a problem for us. And the Porsches are 400 pounds lighter than us."

SCCA SPEED Touring points leader Pierre Kleinubing grabbed his second pole of the season during Woody's Ice Qualifying this morning at Road America. Kleinubing's Real Time Racing Acura Integra R lapped the 4.048-mile, 14-turn natural terrain road course in 2:25.855, less than two tenths of a second ahead of the BMW 325is of James Sofronas.

"My car is underpowered quite a bit, as it has been for most of the season, but we'll take it," said Kleinubing after claiming the 23rd pole of his career.

Paul Bonaccorsi's Mazda Protege will start third, followed by Peter Cunningham's Acura Integra R, and the Honda Civic Si of Taz Harvey.

This morning's 15-minute qualifying session was cut short when Robert Baxter lazily rolled his Mazda Protege in Canada Corner.
