Denver, Colorado: (August 13, 2005) Leighton Reese, of Minnetonka Minnesota, qualified his Banner Engineering Chevy Corvette C6 in 5th position today on a cool Denver street track for Sunday's SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT Round 9 race.

Reese started out the session slowly and incrementally improved his times until the Toyo tires, which usually only have one great lap before falling off, fell off slightly. Happy with his 5th position he parked his Banner Corvette when his lap times started to rise slightly.

The track conditions dictated that this would be an unusual qualifying session as a greed track, due to over night rains, and very cool temperatures meant that the tires wouldn't fall as quickly so Banner Racing crew chief Joe Kantarik set up the Banner Engineering Chevy Corvette accordingly.

"I'm really happy with 5th actually," Leighton said after the session. "The car was running better that it has all weekend. A lot of the corners here are 2nd gear corners and I was up on the rev limiter in 3rd gear between turns where we weren't before so I knew that the Banner Corvette was good today!"

"We had a hint from the touring cars that the track was getting better every lap," Kantarik continued. "We had Wolf worried there for awhile. We were moving up, up and up but then the tires went off."

"I gave him a 5 lap car and that is what he got out of it," smiled crew chief Joe Kantarik after the session. "I guess I should have given him a 7 lap car! He drove it like a pro today."

The GT race for the SPEED World Challenge Series will conclude Sunday's racing action at Denver and is scheduled to begin at 4:15 PM Pacific Time. The race will be shown on the SPEED TV network on Saturday August 20th at 2 PM Eastern Time.
