Henzler ready for Cleveland
6.24.05 Cleveland, OH -- Farnbacher Loles Racing driver Wolf Henzler, coming off an impressive drive at Mid-Ohio, is primed for the Cleveland Grand Prix round of the Speed World Challenge GT series this weekend. Henzler took the pole at Mid-Ohio and never looked back, pulling off a flag to flag win with the Cadillacs of John Heinricy and Max Papis in hot pursuit throughout. The German driver was clearly in good spirits and relieved to get his first Speed GT win of 2005. "That was a very good win for the team. The car was perfect and I felt very comfortable. It was important for us to get on the top of the podium."
Henzler and Papis had an interesting exchange at the Mid-Ohio post-race press conference. Papis thought he had an advantage coming into Cleveland since he has quite a bit of experience on the airport circuit from his Champ car days, unlike Wolf who hasn't raced on airports. Henzler jumped in, correcting Max with the fact that "there are quite a few airport circuits in Germany" and he has enjoyed racing on them. They continued the spirited discussion around which of them would win the driver's and manufacturer's championships.
In Friday's first practice session, Henzler pulled off a 1:19:313 to set the pace followed by Papis at 1:19:443. After the session, Henzler discussed the circuit. "I like this circuit. The car seems to be working very well here. But it was very hot after only the 20minute practice session. Hopefully Sunday's race will be cooler."
The wide and flat Cleveland circuit is very different from the last two races, which were held on natural terrain road courses. Henzler thinks the Applied Materials Farnbacher Loles Porsche GT3 Cup will work well on the airport circuit but he knows the Caddys will be tough and no one should discount the Corvettes and Vipers, particularly Tommy Archer. Said team owner Loles "These guys will be gunning for us now. The added weight we are carrying will not make it easy, but with Wolf in the car, we like our chances. We definitely have some momentum now." The Farnbacher Loles Racing team is based in Danbury, CT. Primary Sponsor Applied Materials, Inc., is the world's largest supplier of products and services to the global semiconductor industry. The Cleveland Speed World Challenge GT race will be televised on Speed Channel, Sunday, June 26th at 5 pm eastern.
