Pole sitter Bill Auberlen drove his Turner Motorsport BMW 325i to victory Friday in the opening round of the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED Touring Car Championship at Sebring International Raceway.

Auberlen, last year's SPEED Touring Car champion, lost the lead to third place starter Pierre Kleinubing on the first lap, and then had to bide his time in second as the 35-car field circulated behind the safety car for thirty minutes as race officials tried to remove a beached Subaru from one of the corners.

"Seeing the car and the tow truck in the sand was killing me," said Auberlen after his ninth series win. "It destroyed our strategy, and I thought it was going to cost us the race. But I got a real good jump on Pierre on the restart and just mashed the gas going into turn one."

As Auberlen drove away, Kleinubing, driving a brand new Acura TSX, held off the rapidly closing BMW 325i of James Sofronas for second.

"That was all I had," said Kleinubing. "I didn't have any more."

Jeff Altenburg and Justin Marks rounded out the top-five.
