DOWNING=B9S 4-ROTOR SPORTSCAR DEBUT -- Jim Downing=B9s new four-rotor Mazda Kudzu will make its SportsCar debut this month at Mosport. In the car=B9s maiden outing at Le Mans in June, the team finished a respectable 17th overall, despite spending more than three hours on pit lane for several minor repairs ... =B3It=B9s a completely new car," said Downing. "No parts are interchangeable from the old car. It was built to take the greater power of the four rotor, with bigger wheels and tires, beefier transmission, a strong, rigid tub and even a new wing. We had a good test the past two days at Savannah. We got a lot of the little details done that we weren=B9t able to get to before going to Le Mans.=B2 =

MORETTI RETURNS -- Gianpiero Moretti returns to the series at Mosport for the first time since Sebring, driving the Kevin Doran-prepared #27 Lista Ferrari 333 SP with Didier Theys. Theys and Fredy Lienhard drove the Ferrari to sixth place last month at Sears Point in the first race for the brand new car. Theys looks to improve on his results last season at Mosport, where he finished a remarkable second and third in the race. Theys started the #30 MOMO Ferrari, then turned it over to Max Papis who brought the car home second. After exiting the #30 Ferrari, Theys took over for Moretti in the #66 Ferrari and finished third. =

ROHR, PILGRIM STEP UP TO PORSCHE 911 GT1 -- The first Porsche 911 GT1 to be owned by an American team is to be delivered today, Aug. 15, to Jochen Rohr, owner of the Rohr Motorsport Porsche team in the Exxon Supreme GTS-1 class. The 630hp Porsche 911 GT1 will make its racing debut Aug. 30 at Mosport. It will receive its first track test on Aug. 20 at Putnam Park, near Indianapolis ... Rohr and Pilgrim have shared the GTS-1 class points lead since the season began at the Rolex 24 -- which they won -- despite recent pressure from Panoz, Camaro and Mustang teams ... "The 911 EVO was Porsche's greatest technology on that platform," Rohr said, "but its strongest points were on tracks with extensive top-gear, full-throttle running. At tracks like Sears Point or Lime Rock, with so many transitions, we weren't competitive. The GT1 should correct those deficiencies.=B2 =B3Even though the 911 GT1 has a smaller engine than our old car, the horsepower is there because of improved design. But the chief advantages are that it is a mid-engine car, it is well-balanced, and the aerodynamics give it awesome ground effects," said Pilgrim. =
