SPORTSCAR ANNOUNCES FORMATION OF WORLD MANUFACTURER COUNCIL OF NORTH AMERICA

PARIS, FRANCE (June 12, 1997) -- Professional SportsCar Racing, Inc. chairman, Andrew Evans, announced in Le Mans today the formation of the World Manufacturer Council of North America. All major automobile manufacturers have been invited to the Council’s first meeting on June 25, 1997, in Chicago. This is the first of four quarterly meetings scheduled to take place each year.

The initial objective of the Manufacturer Council is to create a North American GT and World SportsCar Commission. The newly-formed Commission will then meet during July to discuss technical and sporting regulations. They will work to unify North American rules using the Federation Internationale de L’Automobile (FIA) GT and SportsCar Commission as the benchmark.

Technical rules will be written for 1998 - 2000, with cost containment as a primary consideration on the North American Commission’s agenda. "The FIA and SportsCar will now both have Commissions working to better GT and World SportsCar racing world wide, which should allow each category to reach its potential," said Jack Long, CEO and president of SportsCar.

"For the first time in sports car history, North America and the FIA can work together to unify the technical rules for manufacturers world wide," said Evans, who was appointed to the FIA’s GT and Sports Car Commission earlier this month. "The future of sports car racing will dramatically improve because of this bridge between SportsCar and the FIA." Evans added, "The 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring will be nearly identical in format as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. GT and World SportsCar will compete for the overall win." "A strong new fan base is developing throughout the world for sports car racing. Manufacturers, television and consumer brand companies are joining together to make a terrific package for our SportsCar fans in 1998 and beyond."
