Cosmo seeks three wins in a row in Star Mazda; Series Leader Chasing Fourth Win for 2002 at Washington D.C.

South Setauket, NY (July 16, 2002) - Long Island New York native Guy Cosmo continues his march towards the Star Mazda Series championship title in the #45 www.kc-baggers.com / Racers Edge Formula Mazda. He will take on the temporary circuit at the Cadillac Grand Prix of Washington D.C. on July 20, 2002. Cosmo decisively won the last two races, leading both races from flag-to-flag. Although he is savoring his recent victories, he is not complacent about his approach.

"We can't sit back on our laurels," said Guy. "It's the same as any other race; we have a track to learn, a car to set up, and a race to win. I am very excited about this race. It rounds out the experiences for us as drivers, now having been on permanent road circuits and one oval. It brings a different set of challenges to the table. Temporary circuits usually have very low grip, so setting up the car gets interesting. You usually just drive around the lack of grip, just slip n' slide."

Guy Cosmo is all too familiar with racing between concrete barriers. His made his debut in 2001 at Long Beach, CA in the CART Toyota Atlantic Series where he finished 9th. He also posted two more top-ten finishes on street circuits in 2001, despite the lack of any testing in the car.

"For some, the presence of walls around the track is intimidating, but since I'm from New York, all those 'Jersey Barriers' will make me feel right at home. I also think it's great that we've only get two practice sessions. The teams and drivers who did their homework will be fast right out of the box, and everyone else won't have a chance to catch up with excess track time."

Guy Cosmo has consistently demonstrated his aptitude in several different formulae. In 1999, he distinguished himself as one of the hottest young drivers in the US when he won the US F2000 American Continental Championship, notching five victories in the process. Also that year, he tested in Indy Lights and was selected as a test driver for Dunlop tires.

In 2000, the young driver spent ten months in Denmark as the Mygale works development driver in the Scandinavian Formula 2000 series. While there, he scored two poles, two wins, and 14 top-five finishes on his way to a second place finish in the talent rich Scandinavian open-wheel series championship.

In 2001, he has contested the Star Mazda series for Racers Edge at Texas Motor Speedway and Sebring. Cosmo finished third at Sebring in only his second Star Mazda series start. Guy finished in the top-ten in three of his four Toyota Atlantic starts, including the daunting street circuits at Long Beach and Houston.

GUY COSMO HAS ENVYABLE GOOD LUCK CHARM

The winning streak for Guy Cosmo began at Sears Point, where he posted his first series victory. While waiting in the car on pre-grid, the Hawaiian Tropic Girls happened to walk by. Hawaiian Tropic is a marketing partner for the American Le Mans Series. Their attractive representatives tour with the series to promote the brand. Guy motioned for the ladies to come over to his car to pose for a picture. They graciously obliged. He went on to win that race.

At Mid-Ohio and Road America, the Hawaiian Tropic representatives not only posed for a picture with the young bachelor before the race, but kissed his racing helmet for good luck. Their lipstick prints were clearly visible in victory circle.

When asked if he plans to request their attention again, Cosmo sheepishly admitted that he would.

"I've got this nice tradition that seems to bring me some luck. These beautiful ladies have been nice enough to kiss my racing helmet for good luck before each race.... coincidentally, I've won every race that they've 'kissed' for.... I'm not superstitious or anything, but I think I'll keep those lovely gals around for as many good luck kisses as they'd like!"
