Velocity Motorsports set quick times at Barber Motorsports Park

Prospect Hill, NC- The Velocity Motorsports team recently completed a very successful test at the Barber Motorsports Park outside of Birmingham, Alabama. This was a private test for teams competing in several formula car series. Several of the top Star-Mazda teams from the 2005 season were present for the test. With morning temperatures hovering around the freezing mark, the weather was not your typical early December Alabama weather.

The North Carolina based team was testing with driver, Daniel Herrington, a Winston-Salem, NC native currently attending North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. Daniel, who raced in the 2005 Formula BMW series in the United States, finished 12th in that championship. The Velocity team was well represented by race engineer, Ian Macpherson, crew chief, Keith Mellick and the team's lead mechanic, Lucas Griffin.

Test Quotes,

Ken Erb, Velocity Motorsports team owner
"As Daniel is attending NC State University located in Raleigh, NC I have a natural interest in him. After watching him test with another team at VIR, where he was a few tenths of a second quicker than the other teams/drivers testing, I wanted the opportunity to test him. By the middle of his first test session in our car, he was running the same lap times as the other drivers/teams that all had been there since the day before we arrived. As the day progressed we got faster while the other teams stayed at around the same pace. Our best lap time was 1:20.2 and we still had more in the car. Later in the afternoon when that track had gone away significantly, we were able to run laps consistently between 1:20.5 and 1:20.7. While Daniel's speed was impressive, the thing I was most pleased with was his feedback. He was able to provide our engineer, Ian Macpherson, with specific details that were invaluable in fine tuning the car's setup."

Ian Macpherson, Velocity Motorsports race engineer
"Daniel Herrington stepped into a Mazda for just the second time on Dec10th and was immediately on the pace. With temperatures only in the high 40's by late morning, he was running the same times as others who had been running all the previous day. His feedback was measured and constructive, showing a good feel for the car and its behavior. The crew had the car running flawlessly all day and with a few tweaks by mid-afternoon we were out pacing the others consistently and finished the day fastest overall."

The Velocity Motorsports team will return to Sebring, Florida with their 2005 Masters Series Champion, John Pew, for another testing session on January 3rd. The team also is looking forward to the launch of their new website, www.velocitymotorsports.com. For more team information, contact the BMS Group at www.burrismotorsport.com.
