BROTHER / SISTER TEAM TO COMPETE IN 2008 STAR MAZDA CHAMPIONSHIP

A brother/sister team, J.C. and Kristy Kester, will compete under the Kester Racing banner in the 2008 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. While several father-son teams have competed in the series in the past couple of years, this will be the first set of racing siblings.

Jeff (J.C.) Kester, a 21 year old senior Mechanical Engineering major at Texas A&M, is both a true 'southern gentleman' and a tested open wheel racer. During his multi-year karting career he won two national titles and two "Duffy" awards, the most prestigious award given in the International Kart Federation (IKF). In his first year in the Formula Enterprise series (competing against his sister), J.C. racked up a total of seven wins, two poles, and many top five finishes.

"I've always wanted to pursue racing as a career, thus my reasons for attending Texas A&M and majoring in engineering" says J.C. "Having an engineering background will help me as a driver in the Star Mazda Series to better understand the car and what I can do to improve it"

Kristy Kester is a 19 year old sophomore Biomedical Science major at Texas A&M. She raced karts for 6 years and recently raced one of the newer Mazda series Formula Enterprise where she did had an outstanding season with 3 poles, 2 wins, 3 fastest laps, and top-3 finishes in all but four races in the season.

"I can't wait to compete in this series where there are so many young talented drivers, however my brother is always my biggest competitor" says Kristy. "I am excited that I've been given the opportunity to compete at such an astonishing challenging level.

This one of a kind team is also unique in how it gives aspiring mechanical engineering students at Texas A&M the chance to work on a race team and gain knowledge that will further them in their future careers.

"Kristy is a racer, she sleeps, eats, and breaths racing and I see her as somebody who is always willing to learn and be the best at what she does," says Davy Jones, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and 24 Hours of Daytona-winning driver who also serves as the driving coach for Kester Racing. "Kristy successfully combines her small town warmth and true family values with all the passion, focus, talent, and determination required to excel in a male-dominated sport. J.C. is a talented, aggressive driver, who uses his knowledge of engineering to apply it to his racing" "There's no doubt in my mind that J.C. will quickly rise to be one of the top drivers in the Star Mazda Series."

Kester Racing has been involved in an intensive pre-season schedule of testing to prepare J.C. and Kristy for the new Goodyear radial racing tires, the new standing starts that will be a feature of all Star Mazda races this year, and to be immediately competitive with the top young drivers from the U.S. and internationally against whom they will be competing.
