Carrio and the World Speed Seven Take Over Infineon
Adrian (Ace) Carrio lead the World Speed Motorsports effort of seven Pro Formula Mazdas at the Star Mazda race this past weekend finishing seventh in race one and fifth in race two and in doing closing the gap on points rival Graham Rahal and the others in the top seven championship points. Rounds six and seven of the series took place at Infineon Raceway during the Grand Prix of Sonoma. In addition to Carrioâ^À^Ùs top ten finishes all of the team members finished both races, Richard Fullerton took two 14th place finishes, Patrick Oâ^À^ÙNeill a 17th, Stan Kohls a 22nd, Frank McCormick a 23rd, Mike Guasch a 24th, and Claudio Cornali took a 30th.
The team did experience some adversity throughout the weekend, having to replace one engine, and having to contend with a couple of other more minor items including a fuel delivery issue on Carrioâ^À^Ùs car in the first Qualifying causing him to qualify tenth, significantly slower than his practice times. However, the team drivers and crew all ruled the event a great success. â^À^ÜWhen you go into a weekend running seven cars there is no telling what will come up,â^À^Ý said team owner Telo Stewart, â^À^Übut all of our drivers and crew did a great job keeping the cars on the track.â^À^Ý
While the team continues to vie for the top spot with Carrio they were pleased to have continued the trend which has Carrio finishing better at each race. â^À^ÜThe entire team is working well together and I have to thank them all for their hard work, from the crew chief Emile Tabb, Engineer Michael Doyle, to George Attia and all the rest of the crew on the Rockford Fosgate / World Speed Motorsports car,â^À^Ý stated Adrian Carrio. The team has brought Michael Doyle, their former Toyota Atlantic engineer, back from his two year hiatus to act as the lead engineer in the 2005 Star Mazda effort.
The team now prepares for round eight of the Star Mazda Series presented by Goodyear which will be held at Portland International Raceway on July 30th. Infineon round one will air on Speed TV August 7th, and round two on August 14th at 2:00 pm and 1:00 pm respectively.
