Laguna Niguel, CA, April 18th, 2005 -- Robbie Montinola competed in round two of the 12-round Star Mazda North A merican Championship with Team Bucknum Racing at the world-class motorsports facility of Road Atlanta as a support series to the A merican Le Mans event.

Montinola had a rough qualifying session that hindered him from starting closer to the front. "I was caught behind a few slower cars and with ti me winding down I was not able to put a lap together that really showed what my Team Bucknum Formula Mazda was capable of," said Montinola. "My teammate Scott won pole and we had a car capable of that." Montinola end up as 15th starting position for round two at Road Atlanta.

In the first lap Montinola carved his way up three positions to cross the starting line in 12 th. With a great handling car and a potential podium finish, Montinola was struck by another car in turn seven that ended his race. This caused Montinola to flip upside down and land right side up damaging his racecar. Montinola finished a disappointing 39th place out of 40 competitors.

"It was a very unfortunate incident, especially since it was only lap two," said Montinola. "The Team Bucknum crew gave me a great car and I believe had the ability to finish in the top 5. I'm happy that Scott finished 2 nd because it shows our team's competitive drive. I look forward to Mid-Ohio so I can put the #28 Team Bucknum Pro Formula Mazda up front where we belong."

Montinola will appear for round three of the Star Mazda North A me rican Championship presented by Goodyear at Mid Ohio on May 21st.
