David Ostella is back on track this week and will spend the tail end of it at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia. Round 12 of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear is running in support of the 12th Annual Petit Le Mans powered by Mazda 6, and Ostella is set for his first taste of one of the world's best road courses.
"I've never been to Road Atlanta for a race or a test," said the second- year open-wheel racer. "But I've heard the stories of course. I've run it on the simulator in preparing for the race week, but nothing can really compare to getting out there for practice."
At 2.54 miles and 12 turns, Road Atlanta has been a favourite stop for drivers and fans for nearly four decades, and is a very similar setting to the last event and Mosport International Raceway. Both tracks run through wooded settings and on tracks with a number of elevation changes. "On the simulator the track is just awesome," Ostella said early in the week. "I've heard nothing but good things about it and just can't wait to roll out."
It will be a much more standard race weekend for the seventeen-year-old after entertaining nearly one hundred friends and family at Mosport's Round 11. "They were just thrilled by the whole experience and happy to see me race," Ostella said. "It was nice to be able to produce a strong run after the way the weekend began, but they all enjoyed it and had a great time in the pit, especially the kids who were in the car for pictures after the race. Some of them are die-hards and really understand what is going on, and others are just happy to come out and proud of what I can do."
Aside from that Ostella is back in the classroom in Maple, Ontario, where he is studying Advanced Functions, Accounting and Computers. He'll break from school routine with his trip to Atlanta, and will once again race with support from Global Precast Intercontinental, Alpinestars, and RAW Integrated Ltd.
